The Diploma in Blockchain is aimed at the skills gap in the evaluation of enterprise grade Blockchain solutions, the evolution of digital currencies, and the tokenisation of assets. This is important to the learner as it goes beyond exploring the open decentralised Blockchain upon which many cryptocurrencies are based, by introducing them to the added levels of privacy and security that are the cornerstone of many of the centralised enterprise grade Blockchain solutions.The blockchain diploma provides learners with the requisite skills to analyse the contemporary business development challenges of Blockchain adoption through a mixture of underlying conceptual and applied practical leaning outcomes.
 

Programme Aims and Objectives

Aims

Provide learners with the ability to demystify the concepts of Blockchain technology and demonstrate the potential business value creation of evolving Blockchain applications. The programme specifically focuses upon digital currencies, tokenisation and the challenges that need to be addressed in implementing enterprise grade Blockchain solutions across various financial services and other industries.

Objectives

  • Introduce learners to the core concepts of Blockchain technology.

  • Provide learners with an understanding of the nature and evolution of crypto (digital) currencies and the development of Central Bank Digital Currencies.

  • Allow learners to appreciate the potential of tokenisation to disrupt traditional financial services.

  • Expose learners to high-level technical considerations of Blockchain technologies.

  • Introduce learners to a variety of Blockchain applications and solutions.

  • Develop the learners' awareness of contemporary Blockchain use cases, including an understanding of the nature of Blockchain Sales Cycle.

Assessment

To meet the requirements of the Diploma in Blockchain the learners will be assessed through a mixture of formative, summative assessments.

The overall grade will be weighted as follows:

Scenario-based assignment (group) = 50%

Final examination = 50%

Please note this programme is not on the National Framework of Qualifications (NFQ).

Course Content

The blockchain diploma focuses on understanding concepts and frameworks by discussing how they impact in a practical setting. A flipped classroom approach is adopted, whereby learners will engage with content, which discusses the theoretical aspects of the topic, and knowledge checks prior to class. Classroom time will be used for discussing the understanding of the concepts and frameworks through real world examples, often using case studies.

Structure

The key subject areas are delivered over 12 weeks with assessment completed during the course. The programme is designed to enhance students to explore the opportunities and challenges provided by blockchain and provide solutions to several business scenarios.

The fee for the Diploma in Blockchain is €1,500. This is inclusive of tuition, registration, exam fees and DBS library membership.

  • DBS Careers and Appointment Service- which provides a range of services for Diploma students such as career advice and workshops in CV writing and interview skills. 

  • Subsidised Parking- DBS provides subsidised parking arrangements for students, which provides easy access to all main public transport routes in and out of the city centre. 

  • Subsidised Student Canteen- Diploma students can avail of the Student Canteen which is open in the evenings and offers a wide variety of choices on its menu.
