Evening Degree Application Procedures

Entry Requirements

Standard Applicants - Evening Arts Degrees

Standard Applicants for the Evening Arts Degree programmes must meet the minimum entry requirements of the College.

For Evening Arts Degree programmes the minimum entry requirements are 2 honours in higher level subjects and 4 passes in ordinary level subjects (to include English and maths) in the Leaving Certificate or equivalent.

Please forward the relevant documentation or any other second or third level qualifications (original & official English translation where issued in another language) to the Admissions Office. Proof of age such as a copy of driver’s licence or passport must also be submitted.

BA (Hons) Counselling & Psychotherapy

On receipt of application for the BA (Hons) Counselling  & Psychotherapy at DBS and as part of the professional requirements for this programme, applicants will be sent a disclaimer and reference form. Applicants are required to complete and return these forms along with a 400 word personal statement (approx.) outlining their rationale and interest for applying in the programme.

Standard Applicants - Evening Business Degrees

For Evening Business Degree programmes the minimum entry requirements are 2 honours in higher level subjects and 4 passes in ordinary level subjects (to include English & Maths) in the Leaving Certificate or equivalent. Please forward the relevant documentation or any other second or third level qualifications (original & official English translation where issued in another language) to the Admissions Office. Proof of age such as a copy of  driver’s licence or passport must also be submitted.

Standard Applicants - Evening Law Degrees

Standard Applicants for the Evening Law Degree programme must meet the minimum entry requirements of the College. For Evening Law Degree programmes the minimum entry requirements are 2 honours in higher level subjects and 4 passes in ordinary level subjects (to include English) in the Leaving Certificate or equivalent. Please forward the relevant documentation or any other second or third level qualifications (original & official English translation where issued in another language) to the Admissions Office. Proof of age such as a copy of driver’s licence or passport must also be submitted.

Mature Applicants

QQI Awarded Programmes

If you are over 23 years of age and do not meet the minimum entry requirements, you may apply as a Mature Student. Mature students are assessed on the basis of age, work experience, general education standard, motivation and commitment to the programme for which they are applying. Please forward documentation such as any relevant transcripts, a CV or any other related documentation to the Admissions Office. Proof of age such as a copy of driver’s licence or passport must also be submitted.

FETAC Applicants

Minimum admission requirements for graduates of FETAC awards (former NCVA Level 2 or 3) are a full FETAC award in a course in a cognate area with a distinction grade in at least three modules. A full FETAC award normally consists of 8 modules. A full award may be accumulated over more than one academic year. Further details can be obtained from the Admissions Office.

It is advisable that prospective students contact the College well in advance of application outlining any particular facility or support, which they may need in the course of their studies.

BA (Hons) Counselling & Psychotherapy

Exemptions

Approved Prior Learning (APL)/Exemptions

If you have previously studied a subject(s) at third level and it is covered in the degree course you are applying for, you may be eligible for exemption from that/those subject(s). If you wish to apply for exemptions please send the following with your application:

  • Academic Transcripts (Original & Official English Translation where issued in another language).

  • Applicants who have previously attended DBS need not provide this documentation

  • Applications for exemptions will only be considered at point of admission. Under no circumstances will exemptions be considered once a student has commenced the course.

Fees

Please note that tuition fees apply to all courses at DBS. 

Tax Relief

The degree programmes are eligible for tax relief at the standard rate, which at the time of print is 20%.
