Professional Diploma in Counselling Studies

The Diploma in Counselling Studies introduces students to the pioneers and theories of some of the major traditions in the field of Counselling and Psychotherapy. Students will study the fundamental concepts of counselling and psychotherapy practice as well as being informed of the relevance of this work in contemporary Ireland. This programme is designed to provide a basis for further study and training in the field or it can serve as a basis to enter into counselling or psychotherapy.

Programme Aims and Objectives

DBS's Diploma in Counselling aims to provide an introduction to the work of the pioneers in counselling and psychotherapy as well as allowing insights into a range of approaches in the field. The programme also addresses practical questions around training for the profession. On completion of the 10- week programme, students will have developed an understanding of the relevance and application of counselling and psychotherapy.

Assessment

To meet the requirements of the Diploma in Counselling Studies, students are required to complete a 2,500 word assignment.

Please note this programme is not on the National Framework of Qualifications (NFQ).

Structure

The programme is delivered over a series of lectures by professional qualified practicing Psychotherapists with vast teaching experience.

This course is delivered online.

The Diploma in Counselling Studies will aid those working in the health, social care and education professions as well as in management and human resources.

Typically, participants on the programme are either currently involved in the caring professions or have aspirations for such involvement.

Fees

The fee for this course is €1,325. This is inclusive of tuition, registration, exam fees and DBS library membership. This fee must be paid in full before the course begins.

• Subsidised Parking- DBS provides subsidised parking arrangements for students, which provides easy access to all main public transport routes in and out of the city centre. 
• Subsidised Student Canteen- Diploma students can avail of the Student Canteen which is open in the evenings and offers a wide variety of choices on its menu.
