DBS were delighted to welcome Irish Filmmaker and creator of "The State of being Human", David Merriman, to DBS where he gave a talk to some of our students. The "State of being Human" is an award winning Documentary Film that takes a look at the causes and costs of Homophobia in Ireland and Alabama. Bridging Ireland and Alabama, The State Of Being Human traces the roots of filmmaker David Merriman's own admitted homophobia.
Featuring conversational interviews with members of the LGBTQ community in both Ireland and Alabama, Merriman, who remains at the center of the film, works to revise his initially narrow viewpoint and to understand the true cost of bigotry. The documentary also features an unforgettable interview with Chief Justice Roy Moore, Senator David Norris and Rory O’Neill. "The State of Being Human" won the Viewers Choice Award at the 2015 Sidewalk/Shout Film Festival.
