Marsia Tamburrini passed the ACCA F5 paper first time following ACCA Live Online tuition at DBS. She told us how she found the online learning experience.
Why did you choose DBS for your ACCA tuition?
I chose DBS as I heard they had a good reputation and good lecturers. Also the fact they had prize-winners was very appealing to me. Plus the location suited me as I work in the city centre.
Was this your first experience with online learning?
I studied F1 without any tuition, just Kaplan material and some free resources online, so this was my first time actually doing online classes and having deadlines for assessments.
How did you find the experience?
There was elements of why did I sign up for this?! The 8 weeks is pretty intense, but if you put the work in there is no reason why you shouldn't pass. I really liked the fact the lectures were recorded and you could go back and listen when you wanted. I work full-time and have a family so coming home and being able to do the classes when it suited was great. Especially after working all day, going to classes can be tiresome and not getting home until after 10pm in the evening. Being able to pause lectures and not miss out on anything really helped me retain the content. The deadlines for the assessments really kept you on track for continuously studying. Another great thing about ACCA Live Online is that you are working on your laptop, so there was plenty of practice for the CBE. You can miss out on that element with the classroom experience.
How did you find studying at DBS?
I started studying in DBS January 2017, and so far I've studied papers F2, F3, F4, F5 (online) F6 and F9. I rate the lecturers very highly. You know they really enjoy what they are doing which really makes a difference when you have the mid semester slump!
Would you recommend DBS/ACCA Live Online to other ACCA students?
I'd definitely recommend studying with the lecturers I had in DBS. As for ACCA Live Online, if you can't make it to classes this really is a great way of attending lectures. F5 has the second lowest pass rate for ACCA and I passed first time with only 8 weeks of tuition, I think the exam advice and techniques the lecturer gave were invaluable and definitely helped contribute to my pass. I even had 20 minutes spare to look over my paper at the end of the exam! The relief of having one less exam to do is worth the hard work you put in for that short amount of time. I'm even tempted to do an exam in September by studying Live Online!
