Top 6 Things to Know Before You Fill Out The CAO Form

As the CAO deadline fast approaches, we know how stressful it can be to figure out what courses you want to put down. We’ve put together a list of the top 6 things you need to know to make the process as pain-free and easy as possible!

1) Have a good hard think about the course you want to pick. Putting in the research now will help you to choose the perfect course for you. Try not to leave it to the last minute and take full advantage of the college Open Days. Open Days are a brilliant opportunity to chat to course lecturers and see what the college facilities are like.

2) Don’t doubt your abilities. You may feel like the points for a specific course are too high for you to achieve, but don’t let that fear stop you from putting it on your CAO form – it might just give you that extra push you need to aim higher in your exams.

3) Get some perspective. Despite what people say, it isn’t the most important decision of your life (although we know it definitely feels like it when you’re a teenager!). Try to chat with others who have already gone through the CAO in recent years and you will soon discover that it really isn’t as big a deal as you originally thought. Going to college after school isn’t something to stress out about, it’s something to look forward to!

4) Don’t forget to do some research on the college’s clubs societies and social life. This is a really important aspect of college life and here at DBS we believe happy, healthy students do better in their studies.

5) Give yourself plenty of time to fill out the CAO form. These things take time and the last thing you want is to feel under pressure to get it done on the deadline day!

6) Always put down the course that YOU want to do. For example, if Psychology is your interest, do some research on what colleges offer Psychology and decide what's best for you.
