DBS Men's Basketball Team Make History

The DBS Men’s Basketball team has made history in the Irish Colleges Basketball League by winning the 2011 division 2 all-Ireland final and becoming the first team to be promoted from division 3 to division 1 in consecutive seasons. In Irish College Basketball there are 3 divisions. At the beginning of the last academic year DBS competed in division 3. After promotion from division 3 just this year DBS have remained undefeated since September 2009. In total 13 teams compete in division 2 which is divided into 2 groups, the north and south of Ireland. DBS topped their group and sailed to the final where they defeated Cork Institute of Technology on a scoreline of 67-55 in the National Basketball Arena on Wednesday 2nd March. DBS went in as hot favourites which put significant pressure on the players to perform well, but perform they did with Brayden Bilbe, Eoghan Chubb and Glen Wong coming out as top scorers on the day.
The team comprises students from Ireland, France, Spain, the Philippines and Lithuania. The team also includes two students from the United States who became the first DBS sports scholars in 2010. Both of these students have played in the NBA development league in the States.

The DBS team were delighted to bring home the all-Ireland trophy, however the pride of this promotion success is very special indeed. The DBS team is currently the hottest topic in Irish College Basketball. The team would like to thank all of the supporters who attended the games and spurred them to their great win. Go team DBS!
