DBS Rugby Club- More Than Just Rugby

DBS Rugby Club Splash

Rugby Scholarship Athlete and Club Captain Nicholas Toppo talks to us about the DBS Rugby Club.

The DBS rugby team is not just about playing rugby. We have a strong social culture within our group that forms the backbone of our team spirit.

We train every Tuesday at 6pm at Monkstown Rugby Club.  I think getting up and going training each week is very important to enjoying your time at college, as well as playing better throughout the College Campaign.  Plus the sessions are very enjoyable and exciting and it’s also a great way to keep fit! Without this ongoing training there is no team.  We usually have a game every 2 or 3 weeks with the college as well as friendly fixtures throughout the year. Players from DBS also have the opportunity to join and play for Monkstown FC, if they are showing good commitment and passion in the training sessions. All DBS students are welcome to get involved, no matter what your experience is and the atmosphere within this club is great, the coaches are very supportive and most importantly it’s a great way to meet new people.

We also try to organize nights out with the team once a month, sometimes more, depending on how busy we are with our studies. We usually try to go out after each game we play; the 3rd half is essential for the spirit of a successful rugby team!

Being part of the rugby team is something special. There is a very good atmosphere among us and we are proud to represent DBS.  We train together, we play together and we socialize together. It doesn’t matter where you come from and how good you are at rugby, all we care about is how hard you train, your commitment to the team and of course taking part in our socializing!
