Course Content
Marketing Communications
In this module you will:
• Familiarise with contemporary issues in developing marketing communications strategy.
• Gain an understanding and appreciation of the role of integrated communications within marketing.
• Learn to apply marketing communications theory to an actual industry example.
• Acquire an in depth knowledge of the marketing communication mix and how to utilise these tools in contemporary contexts.
• Introduce to the fundamentals of planning marketing communications and promotional campaigns in a competitive environment.
Management
In this module you will:
• Recognise practices by managers within a theoretical framework
• Discuss a range of solutions to defined real-world problems encountered by managers
• Relate the management of multi-cultural teams and groups in organisations
• Reproduce models of managerial decision-making in simulated class-room activities
• Articulate cohesive responses to cases, scenarios and situations in groups and as individuals.
Sales & Selling
In this module you will:
• Acquire an understanding of the dynamics of the sales process
• Gain awareness of the different environments that impact on sales
• Gain a working knowledge of the principles and practice of selling and an understanding of its importance as part of the marketing mix
• Develop your selling skills and an understanding of the environment within which all businesses operate and the ways in which different organisations are structured
• Learn skills necessary to perform adequately in functional areas of sales and understand the importance of the functional interaction between the sales department and the other main business functions.
Enterprise and Communication (Sales)
In this module you will:
• Complete research as part of a sales project in groups
• Plan and execute simulation events involving professional communication skills
• Use research appropriately within a sales plan
• Evaluate successful enterprises in sales, retailing and purchasing and integrate concepts into their own proposal.
Digital Media Tools
In this module you will:
• Build a functioning website using a standard software package
• Utilise analytics to modify communication to customers and users
• Link customer-content to social media as part of a unified marketing or sales strategy
• Develop confidence in using technology.
Electives (choose one):
Spanish for Beginners
In this module you will:
• Initiate, sustain, and close a conversation with a number of strategies appropriate to a range of everyday situations
• Demonstrate competency in basic grammatical structures. Narrate and describe in present, past, and future, on a variety of familiar and business topics. (CEFRL A1/A2)
• Understand explanations, short lectures, questions and directions given by the instructor or peer at CEFRL A1/A2
• Display a better understanding of the different contexts for the use of the Spanish language.
Spanish for Business
In this module you will:
• Utilise the spoken language and to communicate orally, at the appropriate level, in a variety of practical everyday social and work situations.
• Describe, narrate and present information on general topics with grammatical and intercultural control.
• Know and understand better the social and work environment of Spanish Countries.
• Synthesize information from sources provided (in oral and written manner CEFRL B1/B2).
• Hold an individually prepared talk of specialised nature (CEFRL B1/B2).
Chinese for Beginners
• Understand the phonetic system of Mandarin and pronounce the language properly
• Manage simple communication on basic daily topics
• Understand simple texts about personal information, invitation for events and daily routines
• Produce very simple texts conforming to the language structures in relation to learned topics
• Understand topic-related social culture and accumulate relevant expressions for language use in real communities
Irish Society and Economics
• Identify and discuss reasons for Ireland’s recent social changes
• Discuss the main turning points in Irish history and their impact on sustaining unique aspects of Irish culture
• Explore the evolution of Irish government, politics and civil society over time
• Identify the reasons for Ireland’s economic boom – “The Celtic Tiger” – and its recent economic crisis in a European Union context
• Examine the economic challenges facing Ireland and future prospects for Irish economy.
Teaching and Assessment
The Certificate in Sales is taught mainly through lectures and tutorials, with students taking responsibility for some study outside scheduled class contact times.
Assessed work will consist of traditional end-year examinations plus of continuous assessment based on coursework.
Such coursework may involve research-based reports, case studies, essays, or practical assignments.
