Dublin Business School and MARA Academic Collaboration

Thursday 28th July 2011 saw the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between MARA and Dublin Business School in the new DBS Castle House premises on South Great Georges Street.  The MoU relates to an academic collaboration project concerning the development of an accountancy programme which will incorporate degree and professional accountancy pathways. The Malaysian Government was represented by the Minister of Rural and Regional Development, Dato’ Seri Haji Shafie Bin Haji Afdal, and the Director General of MARA, Datuk Haji Ibrahim Bin Ahmad. The Ambassador – Designate of Malaysia in Ireland, Dato’Ramli b Naam and Lord Mayor of Dublin , Cllr. Andrew Montague were also in attendance at the event.  

 

Dublin Business School has a long relationship with MARA which started in the early 1990’s which saw collaborations resulting in over 1300 Malaysian students graduating with DBS qualifications.

 
The Council of Trust for Indigenous People (MARA) is an agency of the Malaysian Ministry of Rural and Regional Development and was established as a statutory body in March 1966 under an Act of Parliament as a result of the first Bumiputera Economic Congress resolution in 1965. The role of the Council is to promote, encourage, facilitate and undertake economic and social development in Malaysia. MARA also operates several junior colleges or boarding schools, and two universities — Universiti Kuala Lumpur and Universiti Teknologi MARA. In addition to MRSMs and the UniKL, numerous vocational and professional colleges are also operated by MARA such as Pusat GIAT MARA, & Institute Kemahiran MARA. Scholarships are also offered to Bumiputra students for both local and foreign institutions of higher learning. However, students must specialise in certain professions, such as engineering, medicine or accounting.
