Business Senior Lecturer Profiles
Claire Devlin
Claire Devlin has a degree in English from Queens University Belfast. She was appointed as a member of a multi-national working group looking at the effects of Drugs on young people, which was to guide decision-making in the EU in relation to drugs. After obtaining her Masters degree she became a partner in a management consultancy firm and has lectured in DBS in the field of corporate strategy and HRM since 1999.
Michael Kealy
Michael Kealy has been an Associate Lecturer with Dublin Business School for the past 15 years. He delivers to both professional accountancy and masters students in the subject disciplines of Financial Reporting and Financial Management. Previously a senior lending manager with First Active Plc., he is currently Managing Director of Diverco Ireland, an independent company that facilitates the sale or purchase of trading companies throughout Ireland.
Bill Kirwan
Bill Kirwan has taught with DBS for the past five years on both professional accountancy and masters programmes, where he has achieved noteworthy success in achieving a number of Irish and World winning places for students in the ACCA examinations. Prior to joining DBS he was Industrial Relations Specialist with Aer Rianta. Bill has extensive industry experience covering both specialist HR and Operational roles.
Edward McConnon
Edward McConnon is a qualified accountant (FCCA, FCPA), who holds a MSc (Mgmt.) from Trinity College Dublin. He has lectured regularly on HRM and Organisational Behaviour modules at postgraduate level in DBS since 1997. Prior to this, he directed the management development and career planning divisions in Eircom and has lead consultancy assignments on behalf of Eircom in Uganda and Bulgaria.
Sinead O’Brien
Sinead O’Brien has over eighteen years experience in the education sector. A graduate of the DIT she has been with DBS since 1989. As Head of Postgraduate Business Programmes, she has expanded the portfolio of Masters Programmes through collaboration with Liverpool John Moores University. Sinead has worked as a consultant in devising and implementing Strategic Human Resource Management projects in the private, public and voluntary sectors.
Patrick O’Callaghan
Patrick is an Internet and mobile communications consultant and founder of Paveto, a software consulting and development firm. Patrick qualified in Computer Engineering from the University of Limerick, studied International Marketing with Open University and has an MBA from London City University. In addition to DBS, he also researches, publishes and lectures on business, the Internet, communications and electronic business at the Smurfit Graduate School of UCD.
Paul Taaffe Paul Taaffe works for a major Irish telecommunications company. Holding a masters degree from the University of Limerick and a primary degree from the Irish Management Institute, He also attained Project Management Professional accreditation from the Project Management Institute in the U.S.A. As an associate lecturer with Dublin Business School he lectures to both professional and postgraduate students in both Managing Operations and Project Management subject areas.

Dr Lee Richardson
Dr. Lee Richardson is the Head of the School of Arts at DBS and is both a Chartered Psychologist and Chartered Scientist. In his Ph.D., Dr Richardson specialised in the development of animal models of Alzheimers's disease and has a number of publications within the field including conference presentations, abstracts, and peer-reviewed journal articles.
Dr. Rik Loose Dr. Rik Loose is a psychoanalyst and clinical psychologist with eleven years experience of working with addicts in a residential setting. He also lectures on the Masters in Psychodynamic Psychotherapy programme run by University College Dublin in association with St. Vincent's Hospital. He regularly holds seminars on his research in psychoanalysis and addiction in England, the United States, Australia and on the continent where he is involved in a research project on addiction theory and treatment. In addition to numerous book chapters, journal articles and reviews he published his book The Subject of Addiction: Psychoanalysis and the Administration of Enjoyment in 2002.
Dr. Barry O'Donnell
Dr. Barry O'Donnell is Head of the Department of Psychotherapy at DBS School of Arts. He is Programme leader of the MA in Psycholanalytic Psychotherapy and also lectures on the Higher Diploma in Psychoanalytic Studies. One of the first graduates of the latter programme Dr. O'Donnell has a Ph.D. from the Department of Philosophy in UCD and a MSc in Psychotherapy from the School of Psychotherapy in St. Vincent's University Hospital. As well as a psychoanalytic private practice Dr. O'Donnell works as a counsellor in the Drug Treatment Centre Board. He has also participated in government requested discussions on the place and status of psychotherapy in the mental health services. His research interests and activities currently centre on the question of training and transmission in the field of psychotherapy and on the differences in the fundamental principles between the traditions of psychotherapy.
Dr Garry Prentice
Dr. Garry Prentice coordinates the MA in Addiction Studies and is a chartered psychologist with research experience within the area of addiction. For the past nine years Dr Prentice has been a consultant researcher with an addiction treatment unit in Northern Ireland. His research work has included constructing measures suitable for assessment of treatment programme outcomes, setting up of addiction treatment databases, and analysis of client progrss within treatment programmes. In his Ph.D, Dr Prentice specialised in the investigation of risk factors for positive drug attitudes and addictive behaviour. Dr Prentice has a number of publications within the addiction and psychoogy fields, including conference presentations, abtracts, reports andpeer-reviewed journal articles.
Ms. Terry Ball
Terry Ball is the Course Director of the Higher Diploma in Arts in Psychoanalytic Studies and is also the subject leader of undergraduate Psychoanalysis and Philosophy. She lectures in Psychoanalysis on the MA in Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy, the Postgraduate Higher Diploma in Psychoanalytic Studies, and she also lectures on undergraduate Psychology. She has worked on the Scientific Committee and the Training Committee of the Association for Psychoanalysis and Psychotherapy in Ireland (APPI) and from 2003-2007 she was editor of the APPI Newsletter. Areas of special interest include the psychoanalytic understanding of human sexuality, the theory and practice of dream interpretation and the application of psychoanalytic theories to the structure and workings of organisations.
