Diploma in Marketing, Advertising, Sales and Public Relations
During this one- year programme, students will obtain a thorough grounding in marketing and communications methods used in the consumer, industrial and service sectors. By designing creative advertising and public relations campaigns, undertaking case studies and practicing sales techniques, students will explore the world of marketing and promotion and acquire an excellent understanding of this field.
The programme also contains a project that is designed to allow the student to review their knowledge of the subject areas and integrate them in the development of a marketing communication strategy for a business sector.
The teaching/learning approach will use a wide range of teaching techniques, including lectures, videos, workshops, seminars and case studies. Course Content Marketing Taught at foundation level, this course introduces the student to the Marketing philosophy and the many techniques employed by marketers to achieve customer satisfaction. Branding, Market research, Pricing, Segmentation and Strategy are just some of the topics covered on the course. Each student will have to submit a project towards the end of the programme. It tests the student’s ability to solve a marketing related problem. Much of the knowledge gained in the four key subjects is integrated and presented as a marketing solution to a marketing problem. Its submission is in report form. Advertising This course is an ideal first step into the world of advertising and its role in Marketing. Students will study the nature of advertising, the management of the advertising function, the use of media and creativity. Many cases and video material are used to underpin its persuasive powers. Public Relations The world of PR has taken on a new meaning this century. This re-designed course attends to the principles and practice of public relations. Considerable attention is paid to the issue of media effectiveness, preparation of press releases and the client agency relationships. Sales and Sales Management On completion of this subject, students will have gained an appreciation of the role of the selling function in business. Additional insights include the management of the sales- force and highly effective personal selling techniques. Business Communications Participants build confidence in their Business Communications skills by applying effective presentation methods to simulated business situations. To ensure well-rounded competence, both verbal and non-verbal communications are covered during this module. PC Applications Word, Database, Spreadsheets, PowerPoint. Optional- Repeat Leaving Cert Ordinary Level Maths In the above diploma course, there is the option to repeat ordinary level maths if a student failed it in the leaving certificate and therefore prevents them from going to a third level college. This programme thus will give the student the opportunity to gain a qualification and repeat the subject at the same time. Assessment All students must complete a written assignment for each module during the year. The course will also be assessed on the basis of 4 end of year exams held in May.
